Annual Meeting

Be Among Friends January 28 at the Freeland Library

Please join us for the Friends of the Freeland Library’s Annual Membership Meeting on Tuesday, January 28. We’ll
gather at 2 p.m. in the Milby Community Meeting Room (located in the library) for hot drinks, cookies and a meeting to celebrate our accomplishments and plan for the future.

The Friends of the Freeland Library is a wonderful group of caring community members who support and
promote the programs and services of the Freeland Library. Through fundraising efforts, we provide items and
fund programming for all ages, such as summer reading, concerts, local author readings and more. Join us at
the annual meeting to learn about being a board member or booksale volunteer.

The agenda includes election of committee chairs, reports by Sno-Isle Libraries staff, review and approval of
Betsy’s Wish List and planning for 2025. If you have a topic you wish to be discussed, let Prescott know and
it will be part of the agenda. Contact her at 360-682-8642 or prscot@whidbey.net.

At this meeting we are celebrating the long service of Candy Charlwood. She had been our treasurer since
2014 and booksale coordinator since 2017. She has stepped away from the booksales as of December 2024
and will be leaving as treasurer as well. We welcome nominations to fill these important positions.
Your governing board includes five committees. Consider serving or helping with one or more of the
committees. Nominations at the meeting are welcome. Those committees are: Records, Financial,
Membership, Newsletter and Book Sale.

The Records Chair keeps a record of meetings of the organization, including actions and decisions, and
conducts correspondence and send those nice thank-you notes when you paid your dues or make a donation.
Rebecca Rickabaugh is currently the chair. She would appreciate giving this role to someone else.

The Financial Chair is responsible for maintaining an accurate record of all funds received and disbursed,
prepares the tax returns as required for the Friends’ fiscal year ending December 31. This position is open.

The Membership Chair maintains of a list of the members, records annual dues payments and contributions,
notes volunteers, prepares the mailing lists and facilitates strategies to recruit and retain members of the
Friends. Elizabeth, “Betsy,” Waring is managing this task.

The Newsletter Chair is responsible for editing, publishing and mailing the membership newsletter. The duties
include developing a schedule of publication dates each year and soliciting content from patrons, members
and staff. Prescott is serving in this role and would welcome a new volunteer.

The Book Sale Chair organizes the Friends’ monthly and book sales. A large part of this work includes
managing storage of existing donated books and other materials. This committee also maintains the books and
magazines available in the lobby. An amazing team of volunteers has been cultivated to make monthly book
sales happen. But a new person is needed to chair this committee and help Rebecca Rickabaugh.

A significant part of the annual meeting is budgeting ahead to fund our Managing Librarian Betsy Arand’s Wish
List. It is always exciting to hear what the staff is planning over and above the normal operating expenses
provided by Sno-Isle Libraries. The Friends of the Freeland Library board and members review the list and
vote for what it can support.

Remember to pay your annual $10 dues this month. Consider making a donation over the amount of your dues
to support our library.

Not a member yet? Please come meet us. The library is located at 5495 S Harbor Ave in Freeland.
